The class of OM4A with Mr. Aldrin Sacristan and Mr. Gregg Yan

This is the seminar of the infamous “OM4A” section of the SWP class for the half of this semester. The section would like to share the lifetime bonding, learning, and experiences that it has learned in the subject. In-line with the aim of the seminar is to use the knowledge and expertise of the section as future professionals in the future in order to protect and to preserve the environment. In this way as part of this world, the section will be able to carry out the mission of being the stewards of mother Earth in the process. Although we learned making the seminar(s) the hard way, it definitely showed “the diamonds of our class” those that were dormant and in the past finally showed their true colors by being responsible, enthusiastic and aggressive in making this seminar possible. Moreover as the classical management gurus have said, Teamwork, Discipline and empowerment of all the participants are the keys for making any organizational and its aim successful and this seminar is the fruit of our labor, a proof that everything’s is possible if everyone works hard, enjoys hard, plays hard and works under one valor. “United we stand, Divided we fall” as part of an old cliché.

The youth, should not only consider but also to instill to their minds and to apply into our lifestyle, culture and beliefs the protection of the environment, by having awareness and an alive consciousness, on the simple means and ways to protect the environment, the reason why it is significant to do the cause and lastly its importance for us not only individually but also in the macro perspective. The concept of the seminar covers the role and the involvement of the youth, the importance of coordination between all the sectors of the society (from government, to the business sector having Corporate Social Responsibility and to the society) and above all, the reason, significance and importance of the protection of our environment for our humanity and for our right to exist as a specie.

The seminar was held on the 26th of July, 2010 where the resource speaker was Gregg (Gregory in Real life) Yan of the WWF-Philippines (also known as the World Wide Fund for nature) where he talked about the coral triangle, and its importance in the biodiversity and keeping the balance of nature which are essential in the life and existence of men. He clearly explained that without the environment, and without the initiative to protect it, then man’s existence would be in peril alongside with his commerce and economic activities. Implied but not stated, businesses should treat the environmental enhanced processes as expenses but as an improvement, development that would be efficient, effective and environmental adhering in the part of the companies. The speaker sees that what lacks with the businesses today is the initiative, the urge to continuously commit to sustainable development. As the writer like to quote, “Environmental Dysfunctions will always be there, and so are the solutions, but the urge, moral and social responsibility of man to continuously protect the environment is at times not present which is essential as man being the stewards of nature”. Lastly, he has showed that there is clearly many “business opportunities” in the protection of the environment and as future Operations Manager, the class can capitalize this in line with “sustainable development”.
